Try it in Black & White

30 12 2010

I was going through some photos from my last photo shoot and came across one I really liked. The only problem was that the subject wasn’t really standing out from the background. All the color tones were too similar. What did I do, you may ask, I switched it to black and white!

Granted, I did have to play around with the exposures of different colors quite a bit, along with adjusting levels and using layer masks, but I have to admit I like how it turned out.

So if you’re having trouble figuring out what to do with a photo, try it in black and white. It’s amazing what you can do with the contrasting tones.

I hope you’re all enjoying your Christmas and NYE weekends!

Trying something new

16 12 2010

I’m trying something new with this post. Ok, I’m actually trying two new things.

1.) I tried out a new set up with my lights

2.) I’m only posting my favorite shot from a photo session.

Maybe that way I’ll not only get around to posting more often, but more consistently at that.

Another Preview

10 09 2010

I realize that I haven’t been putting up a lot of posts lately. That’s mainly because free time is at an all-time low right now. However, I figured you guys might like another preview from the photo shoot I did the other weekend.

This is actually my favorite photo of the ones I’ve edited so far.

Enjoy your Friday!

Photo Shoot Preview

I’ve really been wanting to update my portfolio lately and, thankfully, I was able to do just that this last weekend.  Here’s a sneak peek.

Happy Friday!

Let the Fireworks Begin!

16 07 2010

What, you didn’t think I’d let you down, did you? As promised, here are some photos from the fireworks on the 4th out here in DC.

One thing I definitely learned that night: Even though I have a nice, new, rock solid tripod, it doesn’t matter how solid the tripod is if my hands are leaning on the camera causing it to jiggle. Thankfully, there was enough light (fireworks are pretty bright) that I didn’t need very long exposures.

Anyway, I’ll let you all check out the photos while I mull over getting a shutter release cable.

An Evening in DC

2 06 2010

This past January I went into DC to have a fun photo shoot with some friends. They had just moved to a new apartment and I suggested that we do a shoot together, because who doesn’t like new photos to decorate a new place.

Even though it was January, and we were about to have one of the worst snow storms in history, it was actually pretty mild out. Mild enough for Sola and Tegan to not have to sport giant winter coats.

Don’t Worry, I’m Still Alive

25 03 2010

As the title says, I’m still alive. I’ve just been super busy. Unfortunately, other things have had to take precedence over writing posts on here.

Good thing for you, though, is that I’ve been forcing myself to be “productive” lately. So there should be a real post up in the next couple of days. On another fun note, the cherry blossom festival is starting this weekend! Look for photos of the trees to be posted in the near future.

Christmas, where did you go?

5 02 2010

Wow, I can’t believe that it has already been a month since Christmas. After taking a nice break from updating on here I finally got off my lazy butt and finished editing some photos from the annual Blanchard/Kewley Christmas dinner.

Rehearsals and Dinners

15 01 2010

Well, this past weekend came and went (and what a weekend it was).

My sister got married!

I can’t believe how quickly the wedding came up. I can’t believe how quickly it went by. It was so nice to see all the friends and relatives that came into town for the wedding. Some I hadn’t seen in years.

It makes me want to start traveling again.

Anyway, I’ve gone ahead and edited the photos from my sister, and now, brother-in-law’s wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

White Dove of the Desert

13 01 2010

When I was out in Arizona last month, we decided to swing by the San Xavier Mission on our way to dinner.

Thankfully, it was right at sunset, which allowed for some great shots. I had to work quickly, though, since sunset was also about 5 minutes before the mission closed for the night.

You’d be surprised at the photos you can pull off when you’re in a bind.
